ARNALDO BADODI, Il suicidio del pittore, oil on plywood, 48 x 58 cm, 1937

Horses and Virgin Marys. Sentimentally inspired by Arnaldo Badodi.

Invited to present a project to be exhibited in the Giuseppe Iannaccone Collection,

I chose to take my inspiration from the artist I like best in the lawyer’s modern collection: Arnaldo Badodi (1913-1943). I didn’t know Badodi before seeing his work and this has been the trigger. I wanted to approach the image in a spontaneous an head-on manner, ignoring the whole array of criticism and things written about him and his work over the course of time; as a pure visual experience, free from conditioning, and then derive 13 works in this way and their formal composition has been designed to make them comprensible to viewers in a free and dynamic way. In this sense the figuration, the handcraft and the choice of materials are key elements of the formal architecture of these works. All this is clearly my stance and declaration of intent.
